Winter Weekend Activities in Malta
Whilst the winters are generally mild and sunny, it can be hard knowing what to do on a winter weekend in Malta, now that it's a little too cool (for most of us) for sea swimming and sunbathing. Luckily, Malta is a tiny but diverse and fun-packed little island so whether you're just looking for a general weekend activity or something to do when the weather is awful, there will be enough to keep you occupied.
Things to do When it's Sunny but Mild
Lunch at Terrone. Grab a cardigan, sit outside and eat some of the freshest and tastiest food you'll find in Malta, surrounded by a quaint little fishing village.
Actually sightsee: in summer it's too hot to really walk around for hours exploring all there is to see in Malta. Use the chillier sunny days of winter to wander down all the side streets of Valletta, or Mdina without dying of dehydration and just jumping from air-conned cafe to air-conned cafe!
Clean up the streets: if you are stuck for ideas, why not top up your good karma and take part in an organised clean up. Malta has a real trash problem and needs good people, or even just bored people, to help. It's a great way to feel good about yourself and also to meet new people. If you don't fancy the crowd or there is nothing organised near you, just grab some gloves and a bag and go for a 30 min walk. I'm pretty sure you'll manage to fill an entire trash bag!
Indoor Weekend Activities in Malta
Indoor Climbing Walls: There are a few climbing gyms in Malta. A small one in the Sliema Scouts HQ and a slightly bigger one in St Pauls Bay. The biggest is Gymnasia Rock in Valletta, which is 7 meters high and has a range of routes from easy to dynamic.
Trampolining: Velocity Trampoline Park opened in Tarxien back in August and is fun for kids and adults alike. Not only is this great fun, something a bit different and something to keep you busy in winter in Malta, it's also a great workout!
Play pool: There are a few pubs that offer pool tables in Malta. In the UK you'd be hard pushed to find a pub without, as it's the perfect rainy day activity, but in Malta, it's a little harder. From what I know, Corks Irish Bar, the Drayton Pub and Funland, all in St Julians, have pool tables.
When All Else Fails
If nothing here tickles your fancy and you are bored out of your brain I am afraid nothing will be able to help you other than a binge weekend of Netflix and food delivery. Don your comfiest PJs, grab a blanket and slob on the sofa with your favourite TV show and something delicious from Time to Eat. Where you can order from will vary depending on your location but if you can, I'd recommend:
The Oven: for cheap but tasty pasta
Amigos: for tasty tacos
Medasia: for fresh sushi and a side dish of edamame beans
Sharma: their hummus is my second favourite in Malta (Alibaba will never be knocked off the top spot!)
