Review: Corinthia Palace Hotel & Spa, Attard, Malta

For Valentines this year, Joe and I took a trip to the Corinthia Palace Hotel & Spa in Attard, Malta. We like doing hotel breaks during the weekend in winter, as you can stay at some really lovely hotels for a fraction of the price that you'd pay in summer. The weather might not be as good and you wont be swimming in the outdoor pools but it's still nice to enjoy a plush room, indoor pools and saunas and a nice hotel buffet breakfast.

Checking in / Service

The service at the Corinthia in Attard is next level amazing. The staff are really so friendly, warm, welcoming and attentive. We were met with a glass of chilled orange juice each and they gave us everything we needed to know. Then someone escorted us up to our rooms, all the while telling us about the hotel facilities, opening times and so on. They really went above and beyond from the moment we walked in, so I was very, very impressed on that front.

Our Room

The rooms at the Corinthia Palace Hotel and Spa in Attard are beautiful. They're very opulent and luxurious. The double bed was absolutely huge and very comfortable, there was a heating/cooling air system that was very effective (it gets chilly indoors this time of year) and the rooms are fitted with carpets, which I love. It makes it super cozy and kind on the feet, I hate getting out of bed onto an ice cold floor!

There's a minibar, tea and coffee making facilities, hairdryer, TV, safe and lots of little toiletries. The bathroom and shower was nice, plenty of space with a good shower and bath and if you're lucky enough to have a view over the entrance, the gardens are so nice. Lovely and green in the day, and beautifully lit with fairylights in the evening.

Outdoor Pool Area

The outdoor swimming pool area at the Corinthia Palace Hotel and Spa is stunning. There is so much space, so many pools to choose from and there is even a 'Palace Pups Pool' where guests with dogs can enjoy the sunshine with their pooches!

This place is visually gorgeous with well maintained and manicured trees and even a pretty little herb garden that smelt just divine. I've no idea what this crazy purple thing is but I just loved it. If you know, please comment below!

Indoor Pool, Sauna & Steam Room

The Corinthia Palace in Attard, Malta also has an indoor pool with extra facilities such as 2 saunas, a steam room and various shower areas. The indoor pool isn't huge but it's of a good size, you could get some decent exercise in if you swam a few lengths and they have a nice sized hot tub to enjoy as well. I do think there should be more sunbeds around the indoor pool, there is very few and they're almost always taken up with towels, but most likely they have a capacity number to think about.

The sauna and steam room are separate from the indoor pool, you walk through another door and actually go outside. This was so so cold when we went in February, although a little more bearable when we went back in March. They have two saunas, (although both times we went, only one was working), a steam room and even a wooden tub, which I guess you can fill with hot water for a kind of stand up bathing experience? Not sure, but it was pretty cute.

From inside the steam rooms you can see onto this extra little garden fountain area, which is super pretty and a really nice touch. When we went in February, as it was Valentines, the hotel was absolutely packed, so it was nearly impossible to get into the steam room or sauna. I guess the hotel gets super busy in summer so it might be impossible to use those facilities however I'm not sure you'd want to use them in summer with 30+ degree temperatures! When we went back in March the hotel was much quieter and we really had the run of the facilities.

Breakfast at the Corinthia Palace Hotel & Spa

We were lucky enough to get breakfast included in our room rate when we stayed for Valentines (we NEVER pay hotel prices for breakfast) and I have to say, it was the best hotel breakfast I've ever had. The selection was extensive and, for the first time ever, everything was fresh, well organised and topped up. There were loads of staff roaming around, clearing tables, bringing tea and coffee and ensuring all the food was well stocked; nothing went unnoticed. There was an excellent cooked selection, a delicious pastry selection, plus cereals, bread, jam, cold meats and so much more.

I treated myself to a small cooked breakfast with the most perfect little poached egg in a ramekin, followed by a plate of sweet treats.

Restaurants at The Corinthia Palace in Malta

The Orange Grove

When we stayed in February we ate our lunch at The Orange Grove, situated in the reception area but I was quite disappointed. The food was very expensive and we had to wait quite a long time for it to come out. They were busy but I always say, if you can't handle full capacity then remove tables/hire more staff. Joe enjoyed his steak baguette but my eggs Benedict wasn't amazing. It was very expensive and the sauce tasted a little sharp, like it was a bit off. However I've read wonderful reviews about this place, so it may have been a slight blip due to Valentines day.

Caprice Lounge Bar

Before our dinner on Valentines, we stopped into the Caprice Lounge Bar for a drink. They were offering half price cocktails earlier than usual due to the special occasion, but they also run Happy Hour most days from 21:00 to 00:00. The setting in this bar is beautiful, really old fashioned but elegant. All deep reds, golds, comfy sofas and cushions. The drinks were nice and the service was pleasant as ever.

Room Service

The Corinthia Palace Hotel & Spa was so busy on Valentines day and we left it so late to book, so all the hotel restaurants were full for dinner. We couldn't find anywhere nearby in Attard to eat and didn't fancy hopping on the bus so we got into our PJs and had a cozy night in with room service. Unfortunately, this was the one thing that really let the hotel down. Joe went for lasagne but found it was bland to the point of being completely unenjoyable. I went for the Thai Green Curry and, whilst it was super tasty, it arrived cold but way too spicy for me. Usually if something is that hot it will mention it in the menu, or have a chilli sign to let you know but not in this case. I had a few bites but couldn't handle anything more so I went to bed super hungry. However....

The Best Customer Service Ever

...whilst we were disappointed with the room service and still now, would not recommend ordering it, we were blown away by the hotels response. We went back this weekend and when checking in we were met by the duty manager who gave us her card and told us to let her know should we have any problems at all. In the room we found fruit, chocolates and some complimentary water. Plus, after we checked in, we went and sat on sunbeds by the outdoor pool to enjoy the sun and when we got back, they'd left a chilled bottle of prosecco for us. They really and truly went out of their way to make up for our less than wonderful room service experience and I could not be more grateful. I don't expect any company or service to be 100% perfect, 100% of the time, so long as they treat customers with respect and try to rectify should they fall short.

Overall, I'd 100% recommend the Corinthia Palace Hotel & Spa in Malta, whether you're looking for a value for money winter break, or a luxury summer stay, their excellent attitude towards their customers makes them worth every single penny.
